Zou Zou Holiday Party.

Wednesday night, our beautiful boss (owner and founder of Zou,) Wendy, had the Zou Zou girls over to her gorgeous house on Lake Nona for a night of food, fun, and gifts. We laughed too much, we ate too much, and I think we all felt too blessed to have Zou Zou a part of our lives… myself, in particular, as I’ll be moving soon and unfortunately leaving behind this boutique and the friends I’ve formed since working here. The store, these girls and Wendy will forever be a part of my heart. Happy Holidays from us to you ♥

Holiday Dresses at Zou Zou!

December is just a day away, and we’re already starting to get in the Christmas spirit here at Zou Zou. With the holidays comes plenty of shopping for others, as well as plenty of Christmas gatherings and cocktail parties that you’ll need the perfect holiday dress for. We have so many options here at Zou that would be perfect for any seasonal occasions you have coming up in the next few weeks, but here are a few of my absolute favorites!

Sequins always make any outfit look festive, but the open back on this dress really is exquisite. Keep your necklaces light, if you decide to do any at all, but show-stopping earrings and a gorgeous cocktail ring are a must.

The lace on this dress is beautiful all on it’s own (I featured it a few months back as one of a few perfect dresses to wear to a fall wedding!) but the color really makes it amazing for the holidays.

The sweetheart detail on the top of this dress is so darling, only made better by it’s pleated bottom and sheer neck detail.

Another low back, I adore the sleeves on this dress and the embellished details. Heels or an amazing pair of boots would be perfect to complete the look, or even a matte pair of black tights for an extra chilly night.

This dress has such a fun, 20s flapper vibe to it: it’s just enough jazz for the Christmas season without looking too costume-ish. As perfect as it is for a festive occasion, you could also dress it down with ballet flats, making it accessible all year round!

If you have any December parties coming up, make sure you stop by Zou Zou to find your perfect holiday dress, we’d love to see you! Xo

Zou Zou Bracelet Layering: How to.

“Arm parties,” “flare,” “stacking…” there is quite the array of terms to describe weighing your wrists down with the latest “bling.” We call it layering here at Zou Zou, and it’s one of the easiest ways to dress up your outfit; not to mention, it’s kind of a right of passage for up and coming fashionistas (reference: Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller.)

Rose gold recently re-entered the metal picture, and it is not in the form of your grandmother’s butterfly brooch (i.e.: it’s in now people. In, and looking glamorous.) It can be hard to tell what’s acceptable to pair with it, but I find golds work best. Start with a bigger, central piece, (such as this Chan Luu wrap bracelet,) then build out from there. A dainty diamond bracelet here, a nugget-gold and hemp bracelet there. I also always prefer to finish the look with a complimentary, statement-making ring.

If you’re going introduce a little bit of color to your layering, I find turquoise the best (and funnest) way to do so. Color also allows you to play with shape a little bit more: spikes, beads or fishtailed gold, if the colors are funkier, the total look can be too.

And finally my favorite way to layer bracelets: mixed metals in a sea of black. Once thought a big no, mixing gold and silver can be tricky, but when done right, it can look oh-so-chic. Make sure your central pieces have a mix of both metals, and then your smaller, single pieces can just be one metal (gold) or another (silver.)

What’s your favorite way to layer your bracelets?!

PS: All bracelets featured are here and available at Zou Zou! If you see one you like, feel free to message us on Facebook and let us know what we can help you with :)

Scarves in Store!

Though scarves have become accessible year round now in the fashion world, there’s no better time to wear them than in fall, when they’re not only a cute accessory, but functional as another warm layer as well. We’ve been getting tons of cute scarves in here at Zou Zou lately, so here are six of our favorites!

A Missoni-esque, chevron-pattered scarf in bright hues is just enough pop for your next fall outfit, while this taupe and pink silk scarf is a dainty, girly-er version of the trend.

Tie-dye was everything this summer, and it carries into fall perfectly when done in outfit-accents. Lace was also a huge trend, but instead of going all out with the style, small details here and there couldn’t be prettier, like on the ends of this grey silk scarf.

This red, blue, black and cream patterned scarf works great as a shorter snood, or like it’s adjacent, as a longer jagged-edge accessory. The colors are rich enough to be noticed, but dark enough to keep your outfit chic for fall.

What’s your favorite way to wear scarves this fall? Who else wishes it would snow in Florida this year?! ;)

Lookalike: Find Your Favorite Celeb Looks at Your Favorite Local Boutique!

People Style Watch, buzzfeed.com, Pinterest… we all have our favorite go-to magazines and sites for catching a glimpse of inspiration for outfit ideas and styling tips. Here at Zou Zou, whether it’s helping a client or trying on an outfit for ourselves, we love looking to celebs for inspiration as well, and sometimes we even find a few that look like they walked straight out of Zou Zou;) Here are four of our favorite outfits we’ve seen on the likes of Rachel Zoe, Sophia Bush, Vanessa Milano and Emmy Rossum that you can find right here at Zou Zou!

The queen of all things vintage and lux, it’s no surprise to spot Rachel Zoe in an all black ensemble and a fabulous fur vest. Here at Zou you can find a similar look with our favorite Genetic black jeans, a Tart faux-fur vest, and a one-of-a-kind Dora Mae necklace with a pop of navy and fun gold tassles.

The floral trend might have started in spring and summer, but the look is no-doubt transgressing into fall. With deeper hues and colors to work with, Sophia paired her printed pants with a tank and a long-chain necklace. We paired ours similarly, and added a pair of gorgeous Dolce Vita booties. Throw on an over-sized knit for cooler mornings or a solid scarf for breezy afternoons.

Speaking of scarves, if a bright pattern is a little too much for you, try accessorizing with it instead, like with this amazing Tolani scarf we have in store similar to the one Vanessa is wearing. Keep the rest of your outfit quiet like hers: it seems Zoe isn’t the only one who knows the key to dressing simply and chic is an all-black ensemble. A square bag like Vanessa’s is also a key trend for fall, and this Deluxe bag we just got in store couldn’t complete the outfit better.

And finally, back to the floral trend, a dainty frock  is the simplest way to be fashionable in a hurry. Throw it on with a cross-body bag like Emmy’s, or with layered necklaces, like the two we chose from our every-growing collection here at Zou. Ballet flats finish the look, but booties and a blazer, as always, would also be interchangeable!

Who are some of your favorite celebs you look to for inspiration? Do you think they would love Zou as much as we think they would?;)

Fall Frills.

Here at Zou Zou, not only do we have all of your fall wardrobe necessities, but we’ve also been getting in some amazing accessories to glam up those warm autumn tones and cozy sweaters and knits. Here are 9 of our favorite accessories we have in store right now we’re loving to accompany those gorgeous fall outfits!

1. A bright red, zipper-detail, cross-body bag. Perfect for holding all of your necessities come a night out with friends.
2. A colored-leather, clasp-bracelet with gold-nugget details, simple yet edgy.
3. Crystal-embossed dangle earrings with a bold cut-out. They’re not your average hoops.
4. The must-have Jennifer Zeuner, sideways cross-necklace. We have them back in stock people, but they’re flying out of here fast! Perfect for a dainty accessory to a simple outfit or a basic necklace layering piece for a more dressed up look.
5. Jeweled bangles in all of fall’s “it” colors. Emerald, rust, mint, they’re too perfect for the season.
6. Black gemstone dangle earrings. Simple, but striking against tousled waves or a fun fishtail braid.
7. A twisted, bead-detail bracelet with an adorable word of encouragement.
8. The wrap bracelet trend not only carries through for fall and winter, but also comes in sharp new colors and designs. They’re a little darker for the current season, and a lot more amazing.
9. Spikes, spikes and more spikes. Though notoriously a sharper look, we can’t help but find them enchantingly pretty when intertwined with colored hemp.

As much as we’re loving these current pieces, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds for Zou Zou! And, if we had to guess, we’re thinking they’re going to be just as irresistible;)

What to Wear to: A Fall Wedding.

A friend’s big day is so long looked-forward to… The ceremony, the dancing, the fun… And then you check your closet and realize maybe the bridesmaids have it good after all: they’re outfits are chosen for them down to their hair, and you, on the other hand, have nothing to wear. This might be too casual, that might be a little too much; weddings can be a tough balance.

Summer’s a little easier when it comes to finding that balance, but fall has it’s challenges, mainly with color. Darker colors tend to be more appropriate for the season, but how dark can you go before looking gloomy and depressed (talk about sending the wrong message.) We’ve come up with a couple different color options for that friend’s upcoming nuptials that will keep you trendy and in-season, without making the happy couple think their recent matrimony has sent you into misery (even if it really has;))

At Zou Zou we’re currently obsessed with this emerald green that is just too good for fall (have you seen this Rebecca Minkoff bag we just got in?!) Emerald green can be on the brighter side of the fall-color-spectrum and pairs well with taupes and neutrals, or it can be a dark inky hue that works better with blacks. Another huge trend for fall? Lace and sheer details. Lace tends to look better when it’s form-fitting, like the dress on the left, while sheer looks best when used modestly like the dress on the right.

Yellows are typically reserved for spring and summer only, but when muted down to mustard or rust, it can be a great go-to color when the air turns cooler. Peek-a-boo shoulders are a fun detail to an otherwise simple dress like the one on the right, and the high-low trend will continue into fall like the dress on the left. Keep accessories in the neutral field as well as yellows can be tricky to pair with other colors.

Cobalt has been a big trend for fall for the past couple of years, and I don’t think we’ll be seeing the color go away anytime soon. Similar to emerald, it can be bright and vibrant, or inky and dulled down, but we love it just about any which way.

I could go on about some other amazing dresses we have here at Zou Zou that would work perfectly for a fall wedding, but I’d so much rather you come in, try them on and let me tell you in person;) Locations in downtown Thornton Park and Dellagio off Sand Lake Road, we hope to dress you for your upcoming fall wedding soon!

Maxi-Dresses: How to Wear Them Through the Fall.

Labor Day generally marks the end of summer, and though the first of fall isn’t until the 22nd of this month, we’re already gearing up for the pre-fall season here at Zou Zou. Blazers, fur and those warm autumn colors have all understandably arrived in our stores to welcome the coming season, but we’re also seeing a lot of what one might generally perceive as a summer trend, namingly: the maxi dress. Easy to pair with sandals, belts, and bright summer hues, the maxi is an easy to-go outfit for the summer, but for the fall, it can be hard to see where a floor-length dress known for being “light and breezy” could work for cooler, darker days. And so we arrive at Maxi Dresses: How to Wear Them Through the Fall.

Since we don’t usually start getting cooler here in Florida until mid/late October, don’t think your maxi is a no-go just because it’s sleeveless. The key to switching it from summer to fall? Accessories! As NYFW called it this past February, the color “oxblood,” a dark shade of maroon, is all the rage for fall, and when done in the form of a cross-body bag, it’s just the right amount of fall fashion to transform your maxi to the next season. A hat, wrap bracelets, and a cocktail ring help bring the rest of the outfit together. For the shoes, swap out sandals for ballet flats or ankle booties!

If you’re scared a thin-strapped maxi still might leave you a little too chilly, a maxi with a flutter sleeve is the perfect alternative to shy your shoulders from the cold. As the fashion world seemingly gets edgier and edgier, you can add pieces like this spiked-bag to roughen up your outfit ever so slightly, without pulling out the black lipstick. Finish the look with a stack of bracelets and your favorite dainty necklace to balance everything out.

One of my favorite ways to take a maxi from summer to fall is by layering, but most people find the concept daunting. I broke it down in three easy steps, starting with a simpler maxi you have in your wardrobe. Solid colors and slender fits work best, and I generally like to keep the first layering piece a complimentary solid as well, like an off-the-shoulder white tee. Next add a piece that will pop to keep things from looking too boring, like a fun tie-dye scarf or a chunky necklace. You’ll find yourself looking very fashion-forward, and the look as a whole, when done right, can be very flattering.

Finally, if all else fails, remember some of the keys components of fall, and dress up your maxi as-such. Deep hues like cobalt or a printed belt made with primary colors work wonderfully in fall when they might look a little too dull in summer, and a jersey maxi versus one made with silk will help keep things looking cozy and appropriate for the season.

The best clothing  pieces are those that can universally carry you through every season fashionably and comfortably. If you bought a few maxis over the summer, think before putting them away come fall, and if you didn’t, there’s never been a better time to invest in one!
